Dealing with negative thoughts

What’s the best way to deal with negative thoughts?

There are various things that help for negative thoughts. It’s not a one size fits all but some things that help is a mixture of awareness, things to do and removal.

  1. Your not alone
  2. Everyone gets negative thoughts
  3. If negative thoughts effects your everyday life seek help of a trusted friend and professional
  4. Look at your self talk are you speaking words over yourself that is exacerbating things
  5. Are the people around you negative?
  6. What and who do you listen to TV, music, movies, follow on social media?
  7. Are you negative towards others?. Speak with kindness and it tends to come back to you
  8. Has parents, friends, teachers, partners, colleagues, professionals, social media followers or others spoken words over your life over the years that led to negativity
  9. Is it linked to ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Autism or Health Related. It could be part of it and then understandable seek professional help
  10. Eating certain healthy foods and exercise can increase mood in most cases even if mild to moderate
  11. Excess alcohol and even drug use can impact our minds leading to negative thinking patterns
  12. The news and social media can negatively impact our health. Limit how much you consume
  13. Many studies on phone use in excess can impact our mental health. Think wired and tired
  14. Avoid spending too much time with people that thrive on gossip, doom and gloom talk, victim mentalities
  15. Spend time in green spaces and outdoors
  16. Pick up the phone and talk to a friend. They might be able to help you rationalise those negative thoughts
  17. Meet up regularly for a quick coffee with a friend connection is important
  18. Stay away from ‘doctor Google’, a doctor once told me. Still working on this…
  19. Listening to relaxing music
  20. Prayer, even people without a faith studies have shown when desperate many have turned to prayer or ask others to pray for them
  21. You can’t stay away from all triggers that contribute to negative thinking but if spending time with someone own induces negative thinking patterns. Limit your time with them and if you can create boundaries and distance from them all together until you’re in a place you can deal with it (be safe in doing so and seek help where needed). If it’s your job start looking for somewhere new. Any situation you can limit or stop going that causes distress, do so safely.
  22. Give yourself a break. Imagine writing down your negative thoughts. Now put them in a basket as the wind blows it takes them all up into the sky. There gone. Repeat as often as needed.

You’re not alone I heard this today and I feel these words are for you too….
