How does your mindset affect your financial success?
When it comes to mindset and financial success the two are closely linked.
Here is two different scenarios all people mentioned are based in the UK :-
Scenario 1.
Sally grew up with her parents who was living pay check to pay check. Her mum would talk about not having enough money to meet their needs. As Sally got older and had her own responsibles she always operated from a place of lack excepting in life struggling financially is normal because of the mindset her mum had.
Both Sally and her parents never seemed to get past their lack in finance mentally. Both stuck with jobs that caused them to not earn more or offer growth within the company. They were unable to save money and they continued to live life this way. Into retirement didn’t change they were struggling to make ends meet.
Scenario 2.
John grow up with parents who viewed their finances whereby their cup was always half full and their needs met. They encouraged John to always aim high and that hard work does pay off in various ways financially but more importantly it can give the freedom to travel, help others, afford good organic food, experiences to help him grow.
Now both Johns parents themselves didn’t grow up with parents (John’s Grandparents) who had alot financially, in fact they just met their needs. What they did show was gratitude, they had food on the table and a roof over their heads. They were very grateful and encouraged their kids to view life the same. They encouraged them to work hard and gave them hope that they could have a future where they have more than needed when they have the right mindset.
John’s parents were able to help their own parents pay off their own morgage and help another by buying their council property. Any other things they needed.
Now these scenarios were based off of real life people the names were changed.
If you’re like Sally and grew up with a mindset that your needs will never be met. Today is the day to change it, don’t accept it as normal. The difference between you and the person who has financial security is mindset.
They know there’s more out there and staying stuck is not where you have to stay. I can’t tell you how long it will take to get there as we’ve never met but you can work towards it.
The aim of financial success is freedom. Freedom from morgage or renting debt, freedom to travel and see the world, freedom to give your children experiences outside of your city or country, freedom to be able to pay for any unexpected bills, repairs or appliances without worry, freedom to not work a long week, freedom in retirement to actually enjoy it and go places, freedom to help others struggling, freedom to pour into charities or organisation, freedom to leave a job your not happy in because you have some money saved whilst you explore other options.
John’s parents and grandparents had a mindset that was life giving. It was where aspirations and dreams come alive. They were satisfied whether they had a little or a lot because their basic needs were met food and housing. For them financially it’s about freedom to be able to have more choices whilst working from a place of already being satisfied. Notice both his parents came from families whose mindset was positive and encouraging, it even paid off for the Gramdadparents in the end as they were helped. John’s parents shows that we can attract people who have similar values to us in relationships.
Now when a couple who both have a lack mindset about finances pursue a relationship, more than likely they will continue to struggle in that area and this can impact the marriage. Financial worries and stress is one of leading factors for divorce. Very sad because I don’t think John’s family would have divorced because of problems stemming from finance they come from a mindset whereby their glass is half full in all financial circumstances. It paid off. They stayed in a place of encouragement and hope for better coming. With their mindset they look for solutions not conclusions.
If you look at those who are successful it all started with their mindset, determination, hardwork and encouragement to keep going.
Surround yourself with the right people.
Take away-
Your mindset affects your success. Make a decision today to try one day at a time for the rest of this month to view money not as the enemy but as something to steward better. Think about how you can earn more money with the aim of freedom.
Don’t accept the negative mindsets you may have grew up with or are currently surrounded by.
